Timeless Fly Fishing Tips

As you may know, fly fishing is considered to be the world’s oldest outdoor sport. It is steeped in history and tradition, with many fly fishing stories told and books and having been written on its many aspects.

Fly Fishing Lessons from Emlyn Gill - Practical Dry-Fly Fishing
It was early in 1911, Emlyn Gill was requested by Field and Stream Magazine to write a few articles for beginners. It was these very articles that came to form the basis for his groundbreaking book on the subject of dry-fly fishing here in America. No other American angler had published such a book prior to 1912. Thus earning Emlyn Gill the title of “Father of American Fly Fishing”.

For many who engage in it, irrespective of how they practice it, fly fishing becomes a passion. For many others it’s a nice hobby, for others still it’s a way of spending pleasant hours in the countryside communing with nature, for others it’s a way of catching fish to eat when back-packing without having to mess about with bait etc., or it may be a combination of all of these things, for George La Branche, it was a way of life.

I should be lacking in all the ordinary instincts of courtesy if I did not mention my friend, Mr. George M. L. LaBranche, in the author’s opinion one of the very best of all-around American anglers, and the most expert of American dry-fly fishermen. I have been on the streams with him, and when watching his work have seen by far the most skillful handling of the fly that has ever come under my observation in an experience of thirty-eight years as an enthusiastic fly-fisherman.

Emlyn Gill, the “Father” of American Fly Fishing
from his book “Practical Dry-Fly Fishing”

What we offer here are simply the original fly fishing tips, lessons, stories told, techniques for fishing the dry-fly here in this country. Something old, yet something new and exciting for anglers everywhere; those who may be just starting out or those who have been passionate about and / or hooked on fly fishing for years – but have never had the chance to learn the lessons taught by these two fly fishing experts.

You see, few anglers of this, or previous generations, seem to realize the quality and caliber of the fly fishing stories, lessons and instructions that is to be found within the pages of older fly fishing classics. Many of these early fly fishing manuscripts were written to serve one single purpose; to enlighten and instruct anglers in this country about fly fishing practices that worked best. And, often times, they were woven into marvelous, engaging and entertaining—fishing stories. Fishing stories about what worked and what didn’t; similar to the ones you may now share with your fishing buddies or perhaps the way you were told about how to fly fish from a father or grandfather.

Overflowing with practical lessons in fly fishing,  although nearly 100 years have passed since these classic were first publish, times have not changed so much whereby the techniques and methods discovered long-ago, as being best for American streams and rivers, would not still be relevant today.

For some reason, it has become this great big secret.

The truth is, the fly fishing practices and lessons in these books are as valid and effective today as they day they were written—but few anglers know about it.

Virtually Every Aspect of Fly Fishing—

So, what’s an ebook?

An ebook is simply an electronic book that you can download to your own computer system and either read it from your monitor, or you can print it out, throw it in binder or simply use a binder clip, and read it as you would normally read a book.

What’s the benefit of an ebook?

In a nutshell: immediate availability, price, portability / practicality.

You can be reading any one of these ebooks in less than 5 minutes. And, if you’re a fast reader (but you’ll want to take your time…the books are good!) you could be done reading the thing before the end of the day.

So, what about price?

Here, don’t just take our word for it, see for yourself what a hard copy would cost…

These are active links to an online bookstore that specializes in hard-to-find books. They have a revolving inventory of hardcopies of these books so what you see could change as the books become available and are sold.

(Oh, and don’t be alarmed if no books are listed…that just shows how hard they may be to come by.)

Dry Fly and Fast Water

Now, the ebooks we are offering aren’t nearly as expensive as the ones you just saw! Remember, that’s one of the main benefits of these ebooks – fly fishing lessons and stories at an affordable price.

You say you like having a hardcopy? So do I – you can’t beat ‘em. There is definately something…about the feel of a hardcover book when reading. But…might I suggest you get, or own, both versions…a hardcopy and an ebook?

Why?

At the price you’re going to pay to purchase a hardcopy, are you really going to want to “use it”?

If you get both, or at least an ebook for now, you can use it day in an day out, highlight in it, dog-ear the pages, or even print out only a couple pages to take with you on your next fishing outing to have as a quick reference.

I collect old fly fishing books and hadn’t read Emlyn Gill’s, “Practical Dry-Fly Fishing” yet. I must say that I enjoyed reading it and — as an avid fly fisher — you’re absolutely right about his dry-fly fishing techniques still being applicable today as they were when he first wrote about them almost 100 years ago!I attend book sales every year in and around Denver looking for old books. Your idea of selling them as eBooks is a good one. While I have been fortunate to have a job that allows me to purchase some of these old books, many cannot afford to buy them. The prices can be intimidating.Your eBook version has just changed all that and has made these classics affordable and available to fly fishers everywhere! Thanks and good luck,Dave Cissne

P.S. Please be sure to keep me posted on any new titles.

Remember, these lessons in fly fishing are not dated, they’re timeless – the concepts are just as valid today as they were nearly a century ago. In fact, it’s a fair bet that only 1 in 100 anglers could even tell you who the guys were that wrote these books. Yet, the majority of fly fishing theory and much of their current fly fishing lessons are likely derived from what these guys discovered and wrote about American fly fishing all those years ago.

Think about this…

Any one of the tips or lessons contained within these hard-to-get landmark fly fishing books could mean the difference between an empty creel or a full one; a great day of fishing or a not so great day. But there’s not just one, there’s literally hundreds of fly fishing tips, hidden away within their pages, that could help you land more fish each and every time out—or maybe tie a new fly pattern.

You say you’ve been fishing for years and are pretty good at it already?

That’s great! But isn’t the possibility of discovering something you were not aware of even greater? And just because these books were written almost a century ago, doesn’t mean those same lessons won’t work in today’s streams and rivers — because they will.

Fish behavior, where they feed, how they feed, when they feed or what they feed on has changed very little. But, what has changed is the way their behavior has been explained. Every generaton of fly fishers, have added their twist or their slant based upon their experiences. That is why understanding, first hand, what made these master fly fishers so successful is simply an opportunity no serious fly fisher should pass up.

So, What’s The Cost of These Incredible Classics?

You probably won’t believe it — and wonder why! As I promised earlier, these books will now be more affordable to fly fishing enthusiasts and definately not as much as you’d expect. Certainly no where near the cost you saw for the hardcover editions you looked at. And you can forget about the prices you saw earlier.

If you order today you can get these both of these ebooks for just $12.95.

Why so inexpensive? Because! I don’t want to give you or any other angler any excuse for not purchasing them for your library! These books are really that good and something you shouldn’t be without.

Period.

“After reading these books, I am now fly fishing”

I have just finished reading the fly fishing books and have found them to be just excellent. I am a novice fly fisher I would consider myself a more beach cast fisher but after reading these books I am now fly fishing. They are very well explained, illustrated and I could not stop reading them, I am now reading them for a second time. I would recommend fly fishing 110% to any eager fisherman.

Thank you for enjoyable reading.

“An Easy Read For Experienced As Well As Novice Fishermen”

“I recently purchased an e-book from you titled “DRY FLY AND FAST WATER”. Although I have never purchased a book over the internet, my apprehension for this purchase was unfounded.

The process worked exactly as advertised (much to my delight).

The directions were easy to understand and the download worked quickly. I saved the books to a folder as you suggested, and after about 4 pages of reading the manuscript on my screen, I decided to print the entire 100 page manuscript.

I am glad I did as my 50 something eyes function much better with the manuscript in bound version.

I printed “DRY FLY AND FAST WATER” on heavy paper and bound the copy and now have it sitting on my bookshelf at our cabin.

“Dry Fly and Fast Water” is a marvellous read that covers in-depth the basics of fly fishing. It is an easy read for experienced as well as novice fishermen. If an aspiring fisherman wants to understand how to improve his chances of being successful, they will definitely enjoy reading the book.

Thank you for making this long lost manuscript available to the fishing community.”

”…and here’s an update from Tom”

I took a pretty good lickin from hurricane Rita, but the house wasn’t damaged.

I have managed a good week steelhead fishing on the Klamath River in California in early September (caught some nice ones to 4 lbs.), and caught some nice rainbows and brownies on the White river in Arkansas in late June.

Hope all is well…!

Best regards,
Tom Dearing
